As the New Year begins the conversation turns to goals and intentions for the year ahead. We spend time in the leadup to the new year pondering what we achieved, what we did and asking ourselves if we did enough.
Then it’s time to turn our attention to the year ahead what is to be. We start writing down goals, setting intentions and sharing them with those we loved in the hopes it’ll keep us accountable and on track.
We start placing expectations on ourselves and can often get caught up in setting goals and intentions that are not our own.
It is at this time of year that we should take a quiet step back, spend some time reconnecting with our truth before placing a set of expectations on ourselves. Rather than placing an expectation on yourself that is not your truth, this is a time to work out what goals you would like to work towards and the intentions you’d like to have a focus on for the next year.
Don’t get caught up in thinking that the goals and intentions you have for yourself are areas that you should already be doing or great in. The idea of choosing a goal or intention is to help you focus your attention on an area that you’d like to grow and expand into. These shouldn’t be rigid or place unrealistic expectations on yourself.
While it is perfect to set goals and intentions for you to work towards, it is important to remember that these may no longer become a priority to you as we move further into the year. As we grow and expand as individuals our ideals and priorities change, and with this so must our goals and intentions.
